Web Developer News: Opera goes Webkit, Firefox 19, Chrome 25

Firefox 19

 

The version 19 of Mozilla Firefox was released in February 2013. You can read all details in the release notes. The new key features are:

  • Build-in PDF viewer
  • Canvas elements can be exported to blog
  • JavaScript Debugger improved (Remote, pause on exception)
  • @page is now supported
  • New length units: vh, vw, vmin and vmax
  • text-transform now supports full-width

Chrome 25

The version 25 of Google Chrome was released in February 2013. You can read all details in the release notes. The new key freatures are:

Opera goes WebKit

This month Opera has announced to drop the development of their rendering engine presto and start using WebKit and the V8 JavaScript Engine. Of course this will not take effect immediately. The main points for web developers are:
  • The -o prefix will become obsolete
  • Opera Extensions are still going to work
  • The object window.opera will be removed
  • Support for WebM,Ogg Theora and Ogg Vorbis will be included, H.264 and MP3 are no longer supported directly
It will take at least 6 months until opera is going to ship the first version including WebKit and V8.
